Australian Employer Sponsorship Visa: What You Need to Know

Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be under 45 years of age when you apply for the visa. (Exemptions if: nominated academic, medical practitioner in a regional area, scientist/researcher, held specific visas, or met work criteria.
  • You must be nominated by an employer whose business is lawfully operating in Australia. 
  • You must prove you have the necessary skills and at least 3 years of full-time employment in the nominated occupation within the last 5 years. 
  • You must have your skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority as suitable for the nominated occupation. The assessment will show us that you have the skills to work under a work visa in the nominated occupation. (Exemption: Academic nomination or 3-year work on 444/461 visa.)  
  • You must have at least Competent English to be granted this visa. 
    (IELTS: At least 6 for each of the 4 components 
    TOEFL iBT: At least 12 for listening, 13 for reading, 21 for writing, and 18 for speaking
    PTE Academic: At least 50 for each of the 4 components
    OET: At least B for each of the 4 components 
    Cambridge C1 Advanced test: At least 169 in each of the 4 components (only results from the paper-based test accepted from 12 February 2024)) 
  • You and any family members who apply for the visa with you must meet health and character requirements. 
  • You should not have had a visa canceled or a previous application refused 
  • You or any family members should not owe any money to the Australian government or have paid back a debt. 
  • If you are 16 years of age or older, you must have read the Life in Australia booklet and signed an Australian Values Statement.
